Hannes Pohlit (born 1976 in Heidelberg) is a Leipzig-based German composer and pianist. His sound-sensual and melodic music is based on the free-tonal musical styles of the 20th century, represented in particular by Paul Hindemith, Benjamin Britten and Hans Werner Henze, and results from a fundamentally romantic and expressive understanding of art with the sound ideal of a complex, natural beauty. With the neo-romantic crossover experiment Paraphrases de Tango sur des mélodies de Carlos Gardel for piano solo, a side line of his musical production has developed since 2012, in which further (tonal) solo works and the two piano concertos Tango-Concerto and Concerto in E, inspired by the Argentine tango, have been created: the first Concerto also as a sensitive approach to the composer Sergei Rachmaninoff and as a homage to the historical virtuoso salon style. This should not be understood as pandering to popular music but as an expansion of his compositional technique and range of expression, also with the interest to develope virtuosity in the technical aspect on the highest level. As a composer and pianist, Hannes Pohlit has worked with the Thuringian Symphony Orchestra, the Loh Orchestra Sondershausen, the RNCM Manchester Orchestra, the Thuringian Philharmonic Gotha-Suhl, the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra as well as with the Mitteldeutsches Kammerorchester and with conductors such as Roland Böer, Oliver Weder, Daniel Huppert, Markus L. Frank, Robbert van Steijn and Wolfgang Rögner. Nach Privatunterricht bei Róbert Wittinger studierte Hannes Pohlit – zunächst als Jungstudent – bei Prof. Hans Zender (Frankfurt am Main) und Prof. Hans-Jürgen von Bose (München) Komposition, um sich dann jedoch für eine Ausbildung zum Dirigenten an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig (Prof. Christian Kluttig und Prof. Gert Bahner) zu entscheiden, die er an der Hochschule für Musik “Franz Liszt” Weimar bei Prof. Gunter Kahlert fortsetzte und mit dem Konzertexamen abschloss. Nach mehreren Jahren der Tätigkeit als Dirigent und Korrepetitor am Theater Erfurt mit Gastdirigaten u. a. bei der Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha-Suhl und der Jenaer Philharmonie sowie beim Festival A*DEvantgarde in München begann er 2007 wieder zu komponieren. In Leipzig gründete er zudem das “ensemble leipzig 21” als Spezialensemble für zeitgenössische Musik und leitete zahlreiche Ur- und Erstaufführungen, wobei es zur Zusammenarbeit mit Komponisten wie Georg Katzer, Manfred Trojahn und Hans-Christian Bartel kam. Von 2006 bis 2010 absolvierte er ein Diplomstudium Komposition und Musiktheorie bei Prof. Reinhard Pfundt in Leipzig und hatte bis 2015 Lehraufträge an der Leipziger Musikhochschule inne. Alongside to his works of contemporary music, he has also created a special Tango-influenced post-Romantic»Salon«-style for the virtuoso piano which he wants to be seen in the tradition of Moszkowski and Rachmaninoff, whose works are also his preferred repertoire – alongside Debussy and Liszt – as a pianist. In this way he continues the old tradition of being a composer who is also a brilliant pianist.
